WE WON!!! 9-30-12

WHEW!!!!!!!!!!! Did we get behind on our blogging or WHAT?? Sorry Y'all. It's been pretty hectic here and Mom just hasn't had time to sit down long enough to blog for me!!!

WE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You folks did it!!! We won the $1,000.00 Shelter Challenge Grant!!! That'll feed us for almost three months!!!

Miss Mirri is doing great and has gained one and a half pounds!!! She's a real sweetie and Mom has spoiled her rotten!! She's looking good, dancing around and jumping when Mom gets near her and she LOVES all us other perros.

Mom and Dad are staying pretty busy getting ready for Bros' wedding!! He is "doing the deed" on October 6th!!! Here's a pic of him and his 4 kids!! The two human kids are Emily and Lucy!! The two furkids are Henry and Poas!! They all get along great and the human kids really need some furfamily!!

 Bro is making his own wedding cake!! He's a pretty good cook so it should be delicious and Maillyn is going to be really beautiful in her wedding gown!!!
Mom made her wedding veil and one each for the girls too!! 
Mom says this is a special day for them too so they need to feel just as special as Bro and Maillyn.
Sis is coming down from the states for the wedding!!! We're all looking forward to seeing her!! She's bringing our friend Patty too!!

We got  another kitten in today. He's mostly gray with a little bit of white on him. Mom says he's bigger than the first three that came in. Looks like another long night!!!
Lee, the lady who is fostering the others, says the 4th one was bigger than the first three also so we're guessing these last two are from a different litter.
Mom says we need to trap the stray mama cats and the papa cat too!! Then we can get them FIXED!!!!!

Our great volunteer, Karina, was here today but it was her last day!!! We sure are gonna miss her!! She's goin' back to that place called Norway!! I bet she misses this beautiful weather when she goes back there! I bet she misses us furkids too!!!
Me and the other perros gave her a goin' away party on the porch!!!
She promised to come back so we're gonna count on that!!!!

Mom made a sling thingy for Miss Mirri. She gets lonesome out in the view-room by herself and Mom can't sit all day and hold her in her lap so now she has a carry sling. Mom just puts her in it and totes her around like a purse or somethin'.
Personally I think Mom is spoiling her!!!
But Mom says she'll be so much happier when she has the LIONS share of the attention and lovin' and a human of her very own. There's so much goin' on around here all the time and she just doesn't get ALL the attention!! What a a little diva she is!!!
And she's gained one and a quarter pounds!! Mom says if she keeps eating like she does she'll be a curly white great dane!!!!

Miss Mirri is happiest when she's in someones lap!! She goes right to sleep and doesn't even move!! She's doin' real good but her sight has not come back. Mom says that's ok though as long as her new mom loves her!!
Mom's gonna take her to the vet today to get another blood test and see if her anemia is finally fixed. Her ears seem to be MUCH better and she is jumping around like a puppy!!! So she's feeling MUCH better than she did when she came here and she's gained a POUND AND A QUARTER!!!!!

The orphaned kittens are finally all back together!!! YAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!!!!! The little one that was brought to Mom cried a LOT, even when it's tummy was full and Mom said it was looking for it's mama and it's litter mates. Yesterday, Debby, the lady who was fostering the three others, brought them over to Lee, another cat rescue person, and Mom brought the one kitten to join them. When we put the one kitten in with the others it immediately snuggled in and got quiet. That was SOOOO great!!! wagwagwag
We are hoping for a surrogate mom for them but if that doesn't happen then Lee will raise them on bottles. She has done it lots of times so Mom is not worried at all!!!

In case some of you don't know....China is sending poisoned treats to the US and the american companies are selling them to the public under their own brand name. Those treats are killing dogs. PLEASE don't buy ANYTHING made in China.
China has sent poison stuff that has killed children, older people and THOUSANDS of pets. They just don't seem to care. And the US gvt doesn't seem to either otherwise they'd make the stores pull these things off their shelves.

Check all the labels. Even if it says it's "made in the US" it still might have ingredients from China. Call the companies that make them and ask them if they buy ingredients from China.
Mom says if we would all just STOP buying anything from ANYONE who buys from China then maybe the US would wise up.
We're sending a pic with a list of the most recent POISON TREATS.
If you are giving your dog these please take them back to the store. Check the shelves and see if they are still selling them. If they are ask them HEY!!!!! WHY ARE THESE POISON TREATS STILL ON YOUR SHELVES?"
Mom says stand in front of the dog treat isle and YELL the question up to the cashier!! That way LOTS of people will find out about it!! (Mom can get pretty loud when it comes to protecting us furkids)

We don't get lots of treats but sometimes Mom makes us some. She just saves leftovers from their food and when she has enough she puts it in the blender, adds a little water, and makes mush out of it. Then she adds some flour  and makes a dough out of it. She cuts them up in bite size pieces then she cooks 'em in the oven on a cookie sheet at a real low temperature, about 250, for a long time til they are crunchy!! We LOVE them!!!!

It's rainy season and, in the afternoons, when it starts raining, Dad takes a nap and so do all us furkids!! Yesterday MOM even took a nap!!! We were all amazed!! Mom NEVER lays down during the day!! But after the kitten was gone, and she saw how happy they were all being back together, she relaxed a LOT and just kind of melted into bed. WAGWAGWAG!!!

Karina, our volunteer, is here again today!!! YAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!!!! And she brought tuna for Miss Mirri!!
You should see that little one EAT!!!
MAN!!!!!!!!!!!! Does she love tuna and chicken!!! But she turns her nose up at  canned dog or cat food. It has to be chicken Mom cooked for her or real tuna.
She does like the dry puppy chow but she's REAL picky about her wet food!!

We had another earthquake last night. It was a 4. something and Dad felt it but Mom was moving around a lot and didn't feel it.
They are saying we should expect another large earthquake so Mom is a little nervous. They have had over a thousand aftershocks from the 7.6 we had a week ago and they say something about plates shifting and stuff. So could Y'all please say some prayers and send positive energy for Costa Rica? We'd really appreciate it.
That big one really scared us a lot!!!

A family here is looking for a home for their rescued dog. If any of you are looking for a small/medium sized dog or KNOW of anyone looking this could be the best friend you've been looking for.

"Some info about Marty, from Lynn: Here are some pictures of my best friend Marty (above). Marty WAS a street dog, who jumped into my lap one day while eating in an outdoor restaurant. He thinks he is a cross between a bird dog (loves to chase the birds) and a lap dog (loves people/children). Marty is mid size, lean and runs like a deer. There is not a mean bone in Marty however he does bark when things seem out of the ordinary. He usually runs the perimeter of the house every morning and night and then settles back in to bed. Marty is a lot of fun- full of energy but is also calm and loves to lay in the sun. He gets along with other dogs as long as they leave his food alone (the street dog in him). He is mid size, weighs around 13 lbs and has short hair that does not shed. He does require a high fenced in yard. I adore this dog and so wish I could keep him, but unfortunately that is not possible due to a move. We will provide $50. for food. Please contact us if you are interested in meeting Marty. I can also send more pictures if necessary.

Our GREAT volunteer, Karina, is here again this week!! She is a HUGE help!!! And we get LOTS of extra belly rubs and lovin'!!!!

 

She's amazed at how much Mirri has improved since she's been here!! It's an amazing difference!!

She's getting stronger and stronger. Mom and Mirri have to wrestle with her to do her eye drops, ear drops, and make her take her supplements!!

Our Andre had to go to the vet last night. His snout is kinda red and puffy. Dr. Sharon did a skin scrape to send off to the lab. We should hear something back on that today. Dr. Sharon thinks it might be a fungus.

Me and the other fuzzbutts are all doin' ok. Mom helps me when I can't see so I stay pretty close to her. Juliette is losing her hearing too so now Mom has two almost deaf furkids. She has to talk REAL LOUD to help us hear her.
We think maybe Juliettes sight is getting bad too. She's always been nearsighted and now she is being more careful when she walks so Mom says it could be that her sight is getting worse.
She, Andre and I are all 15 years old.

Sept. 9 & 10

Sept. 9th Sunday

Mom just now got time to sit down at the computer and type my reminder!!
Dad got up this morning telling Mom he didn't sleep any last night because he had nightmares about taking in too may animals!! He was in a pretty surly mood. He dreamed they had a HUGE fight and that he left!!! He said, in his dream, Mom left too!!
Moms first question was, "What about the animals?"



 Then a neighbor showed up with three 8 day old kittens whose mom has abandoned them!!


 
Mom went right to work warming the kittens and feeding them. (It was right in the middle of feeding time and I, Mr BudBud, actually had to WAIT for my breakfast!!) 

She got all their bellies full and made the neighbor stay with her and help so she could show her how to do it.
We called a rescue friend in town who we thought might have a nursing mama cat but she says she won't have one until next week.
Mom gave the neighbor some formula we had here and is going to buy more formula tomorrow. She asked the neighbor if she could take the kittens back home with her and nurse them but the woman says she has to work from 6:00 in the morning until 6:00 at night. She won't be able to feed them or care for them. So Mom is gonna have to do it if we can't find a foster who will do it fo

WHOOOOHOOOO!!!!!!! We just got a call from a friend who offered to foster the kittens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you GOD!!!!!

Mom is still busy with Mirri and and all us other furkids, (there's 20 of us right now) and she was really worried about having the time and energy to take care of these little ones.

Sept. 10th 2012

 Miss Mirri is getting SOOO spoiled!! She gets to stay out in the view room a lot and she has figured out which door comes inside the house. When she gets bored being out there she comes to that door and barks at Mom and scratches on the door!! She bounces when she barks and her front feet come up off the ground!! She's SUCH a cutie!!
She's getting stronger and stronger and her last blood test came back GOOD!! WAGWAGWAG!!!

Yesterday a neighbor came over to ask us something and he saw all the water apples on our tree. Before he left  he and his little nephew picked a BUNCH to take home with them.

 
In just a few minutes our gate bell rang and there was like 8 kids and three adults at our gate with bags!!! They all wanted some of our apples.
Mom told them to help themselves and they practically cleaned the tree off!!
Another few minutes went by and they rang the gate bell again. This time they had a little bag of baked goodies for us as "thanks" for the apples.


We haven't talked to the ANGEL who is fostering the kittens yet today. Mom's gonna talk to her after we finish my reminder.
They sure are cuties. Y'all please say some prayers and send some positive energy for them AND for Aunt Debby!!!

 Yes. we got behind AGAIN!!! It's been a rough couple of weeks. Here's an update of the past few days.

Wednesday Sept.5th 2012
Our reminder is going out early again 'cause we've got a very important request!!!
We need prayers, healing energy, positive energy and good wishes for Don Gato.
He seemed to be doing well but has taken a turn for the worse. He is not eating on his own, not drinking, very lethargic and depressed, weak, and just does not feel good at all.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send powerful energy for him!!!
Mom is really worried so it looks like it's gonna be another sleepless night.


Mom and our volunteer (she's GREAT by the way) got some food down him this morning and gave him all his medication. Mom and Dad were able to get 45 cc's of water into him tonight and some more food. Plus all his evening medication.
We are hoping he will feel better tomorrow morning.

Little Mirri is doing fine. She is now getting medication for the infection in her ears. She HATES getting the drops in her eyes for the eye infection because she can't see it coming and it scares her a little. Mom tries to let her know by touching near each eye as she puts the drops in but it still scares her.
But she's bouncing around and seems to be feeling better every day. She gets to run around in the view room a lot during the day and then Mom puts her  back in the clinic room for a rest.

All us other furkids are doing good. We're trying to stay out of the way while Mom worries about Don Gato.
We just give her a pat on the leg and a sweet smile and tell her we love her.

Thursday Sept. 6th, 2012 

 Sorry but this reminder will be short. Moms' got a very sad heart and she doesn't feel like typing much.
Today has been a very bad day.

This morning (Wednesday) we had a HUGE earthquake!! It was a 7.6!!! Our house bounced around a LOT and lots of things fell off shelves and got busted!!! The car was bouncing so hard the tires were coming off the ground.
So far 2 deaths and many injuries have been reported. One man died when a wall fell on him and another died of a heart attack during the quake. Lots of homes were destroyed and roads collapsed or were covered in landslides.
We were very blessed and all of us are ok!! But earthquakes scare Mom worse than just about anything so she has been really tensed up all day.

Then, this afternoon, Don Gatos family came to see him and Mom told them she was VERY worried about his condition. She explained to them that his infections seemed to be getting worse even with all the medication he was on. He was very depressed and lethargic and Mom was REALLY worried about him.
No matter how hard she tried the leg just kept getting worse.
They decided to take him to their regular vet and, after he examined Don Gato, he recommended that he be euthanized. The infection had gotten too severe.
The family decided it was not fair to allow him to keep suffering and made the decision to let him go to the bridge.
We tried so hard to help him and things just did not work out. He rallied for a couple of days and then started getting worse.
Moms heart is broken and she is crying a lot. She feels so bad because she could not save him. We are all very sad tonight.

The good thing is Miss Mirri is doing really good and is becoming very spoiled. She gets to be loose in the view room most of the day. We have to close the screen door so she can't come inside the main house because she might get out onto the porch and fall off the ledge.
Her right eye is looking some better and we are hoping she will regain some sight in it.

Still, it has been a very scary and sad day.

Friday Sept. 7th, 2012 


Our FANTASTIC volunteer was here again today!! She is a HUGE help around here!! She gives us lots of belly rubs and snuggles!!! WE LIKE HER!!!! Her name is Karina and she is from some place called Norway!! She has this NEAT accent!! She says it is pretty cold in Norway sometimes and they have LOTS of snow!!! I remember snow from Tennessee!!!
It was cold. It got stuck in my fur and made snowballs in my hair!! It didn't taste very good and sometimes it got deep enough that when I squatted to poop it froze my butt!!!
It even got cold in FLORIDA!! Check out my pic sitting under the frozen water fountain!!
I think I like it better when there is NO cold and snow!!! I like a nice WARM butt.
 

It's still rainy season here but it hasn't been too bad this year. We get a rain usually each afternoon and then we sometimes have some rain at night. The night rains are REALLY great 'cause we have a tin roof and a nice gentle rain
just sounds SOOO nice!!!
'Course if it's a real HEAVY rain we can't hear ourselves think and it scares us perros when it gets so loud. 
 

And GUESS WHAT!!! A lady came today and brought us a LOT of donated medicines and blankets and collars and all kinds of great stuff!! It was a WHOLE BIG SUITCASE full!! And she gave us the suitcase too!!! Mom says it's like CHRISTMAS!!!!! And she says her friends in the states are collecting MORE stuff for us!!! WHOOO HOOOO!!!!

Mom bought a dress for Bros' wedding today!! It's long and real pretty colors!!
She also bought one of those "body smoother" thingys to wear under it.
Now Mom's kinda skinny but she's tall.
Ticas (Costa Rican women) are all pretty petite. So the clothes they sell here are made for smaller women.
Mom has tried to buy blouses here and she says their XL is the same as a SMALL in the US.
Mom says when she went into the underwear store she first tried on the "small" body smoother. She says she couldn't even get it over one leg!!!!! She says maybe it would have fit a very skinny two year old!!

Then she tried on the medium and she managed to get it over one leg but that was all!!!

Then she tried the large!! She got it over both legs but couldn't get it passed her butt!!

So she tried on the XL. She got it all the way up but she couldn't breathe.

So she asked them if they had one that wasn't so STRONG!!!!!
They brought her another one that didn't have the belly panel in it and it fit...but she still makes REAL FUNNY NOISES while she's putting it on!!!
All us furkids just sit and laugh about it!!! Dad laughs too but he told us not to tell Mom!!Mom is still pretty blue. She can't get Don Gato out of her mind. She says she will never again go against her instincts. EVER!!! She blames herself for Don Gato not making it. It could have been avoided if she had pushed for what she thought was the right thing to do.
His human family is SOOOO wonderful!! Most of the rescues we get are animals that somebody got tired of and threw away.
Don Gato had a GREAT family who all loved him like crazy!!!
Mom says they renew her faith in humanity!!
She's so happy to know that he at least had a wonderful life before his accident.

 Saturday Sept 8th, 2012

"Volcano Mom" finally blew yesterday. We all knew it was coming. She can only stand so much pressure and then her top blows!! It's actually a good thing 'cause after that happens she calms down and gets back to  bein' Mom. There's just been too much happening this last couple of weeks and the pressure had really built up.

It's kinda funny too 'cause it's usually some little bitty thing that uncorks her.

It's never us furkids though. She might be irritable with us but what blows the lid off is always something like a light bulb burning out at a bad time or dropping an egg or something like that. 

She's a real sight to see when it happens and she stomps through the house so hard it makes that 7.9 earthquake seem tame.

She's back to normal now and all is better.

Llutu, now known as Pequi, is visiting and she and Clem are BONKERS for each other!!. They NEVER stop wrestling and playing. When Pequi got here Clem was REALLY mad at her and fussed at her real loud for about two minutes!! Then they got busy playing and they haven't stopped. Pequis new sister, Poochie, is here too and sometimes she plays a little but not like Pequi and Clem.
 
We've got Maggie and Emma and Pogo and Misty here too!!! So there's a total of 22 furkids here now!! It's like old times!!!

Mirri is doing great and today she's a little mad 'cause she has to stay in the clinic for most of the day while we clean house. Mom's gonna let her out in a little while but we gotta let the floor get dry first.

Miss Mirri and Don Gato went back to Dr. Sharon yesterday. Mom found some places on Don Gato that looked like he might be getting an infection. We REALLY don't want that so off to the vet!!!
Dr. Sharon did find a little infection so we're back to more medication.
There's also an area where the inside of the leg meets the belly and groin that doesn't get to dry out because it doesn't get a lot of air. We have to start keeping that dry too.
He's back on the pain meds too and vitamins with iron.
His "mama" was here last night and held him while Mom doctored him. She does a GREAT job of holding him and he seems to obey her better too.
She got him to eat a good meal too. He had not been eating real good last night or today.
Y'all keep saying prayers and sending healing energy for him please!!!

Miss Mirri is fine but she threw up twice yesterday morning and Mom wanted Dr. Sharon to check her out. Dr. Sharon says it seems to be just gas so now she's on medicine for that. We found out she has some infection in her ears too!! So now she's on medicine for that!!

Last night, while Mom was working at the computer, Laika kept coming over and nudging her. Mom would pet her and say "I love you too Laika" and Laika would walk away. But she'd be back in just a minute and nudge Mom again.
Mom finally looked around to see what it was Laika was trying to tell her.
Lady Juliette was asleep in the very middle of Laikas big bed!!
Mom got up and moved Juliette to another bed and Laika immediately got in her bed and went to sleep!!
Of course Lady Juliette was HIGHLY insulted and got out of the small bed Mom put her in and laid down on the floor!!
She is SUCH a DIVA!!!!!

The valley was full of clouds again yesterday afternoon. It looks so pretty that way!!!

And of course Moms bed is, as always, FULL!!!

We're all doin' pretty good here at Lighthouse this morning!! Mom had to make up the bed around me 'cause I wanted to sleep in. I did finally consent to gettin' up 'cause I know me and Mom have to get downstairs and start doin' all the feeding, medicating and clinic stuff.
Bein' Boss Dog is tough and our work is really never done. sigh.......................

We've got a new volunteer comin' today. The volunteer is supposed to be here around 10:00. We can't wait to meet him/her. We sure hope they're as good as our last volunteer, Kristina!!!! She was a JEWELL!!!!

Don Gato is doing good and Mom is letting him get out of the crate and move around some each day now. He is using his leg and putting weight on it but it is still painful so he goes a few feet and then he lays down for a while.
He purrs when Mom pets him and raises his chin for chin scratches and he LOVES to have his belly rubbed!!!!

Miss Mirri is still her cute self and is getting real spoiled. If Mom doesn't go out and pet her every few minutes she barks to tell Mom it's TIME!!!
The lady who rescued her from the highway came to see her yesterday. She was so glad to see little Mirri doing so well!!!
She held Mirri while Mom got Don Gato out of his crate and Mirri just settled into her arms and went to sleep.
That's the only time she is still is when someone is holding her and loving her.

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!!! Don Gato is up and around and wanting out of his crate!! He's eating, drinking, peeing and HE POOPED!!!! Mom is SOOOOOOOOOOO happy!!!!
He was meowing at her this morning when she went out to clean his crate!! He was hungry and he wanted to come out!!

Mom finally put a litter box in with Don Gato last night and he looked at it like it was an alien. Then he tried to eat the litter. He spit it out pretty quick though. But he figured out he could poop in it and he DID!!! THREE TIMES!!!!

His owners were here to visit him again last night and we had all decided if he didn't poop last night we would give him a little mineral oil to help it along. He hasn't pooped since he got here on the 23rd!!! That's 10 DAYS!!!!!

Her Ladyship Mirri is bouncing around, wagging that little stub of a tail and doing REALLY good!!!! Mom says she's gonna be one super spoiled little girl!!!!!

We got behind on our blogging again. Mom and Dad have been so busy it just has to wait sometimes.

Hola Y'all!!

Todays' reminder will be another short one. Don, the injured cat, is keeping Mom and Dad VERY busy and they are constantly checking on him and giving him meds and stuff.
He is doing better and is not in quite so much pain but he is still in really bad condition. PLEASE say prayers for him and for little Mirri!
 

Mirri is doing GREAT!! She still has no vision bet she is 100% stronger and is jumping and playing!! She likes to be in the house in Moms lap but can't always be so she raises a ruckus when she has to be in the clinic room.

All us other furkids are just kicking back and being very patient while Mom has to spend so much time in the clinic. We know the other furkids need lots of help right now. We're a pretty understanding bunch of furbabies.

 
We had company last night!! Aunt Judy and Uncle Mike came up from Panama for a visit!! We really enjoyed having them with us.

And Mom talked to an old singin' buddy last night on the chat thingy!! Mom really enjoyed getting to chat with him. He recently lost his best friend. His Great Dane, Jake. Jake was only 6 years old.
Gerald used to take him EVERYWHERE!! His heart was broken when he lost him.

Gotta go. Time for Mom to do more meds for Don.

It's  been another really busy mornin' here. Mom and Dad spend most of each mornin' working on Don Gato. He has to have a lot done to him several times a day. And Mirri has to get all her meds too so Mom and Dad are in the clinic a long time.

 
Mirri is doing great and is getting to be a really spoiled little girl. She is bouncing around like a puppy now!! She is eating REALLY good so we hope she is getting over her anemia. She's gettin' medicine for that and she has to have another blood test next week to see if it's better. What a cutie she is!!

We had a visit from Don Gatos owners last night!!!! They really really love this cat and they are extremely worried about him. They have told us to just let them know if we need ANYTHING like meds, food, or anything for him and they will be glad to get it for him!! It's such a relief to meet people who actually care about their animals.
They have a little dachshund and a yorkie too. They said that Don Gato and the Doxie are best friends and that the doxie is really missing his buddy.
They seem to be really nice people.

They told Mom that when he didn't come home they went looking for him. They found him all torn up like this and rushed him to the vet. None of them were actually capable of giving him the intensive care he has to have right now so they didn't feel like they had any choice but to have him put to sleep.
They are SO glad Mom was able to take him and care for him!!
Mom is just glad to know that he has been loved all his life and has had a great family. Thank God for good people!!!

Dr. Sharon came up again last night too. She is happy with how he is doing. She was here when the owners, Priscilla and her mom Ivonne were here and she got to tell them all about what was going on with Don Gato.
Priscilla speaks perfect english but her mom doesn't so it was nice that Dr. Sharon could explain to her.

Spanky is hanging out with us perros again. Mom says we're not allowed to tell him he's a cat. She said it might bruise his ego.

 All us Lighthouse kids are just relaxing and keepin' out of Mom and Dads way. They are staying pretty busy with Mirri and Don Gato. We're all used to it and we know when there's an urgent kid in the house.

 
Mirri got to run around in the house with us for a few minutes yesterday. She sure is a cutie. And GUESS WHAT!!! She's gained 3/4 of a pound!! You can still feel all her little bones but not for long if she keeps eating the way she does!!!
 
Don Gato is doin' ok. He is still kinda in intensive care and gets subcutaneous fluids three or four times a day along with all his medication and working on the leg and stuff.
The biggest problem is he has not eaten since he got here. I'm sure he just hasn't felt like eating.
Mom, Dad and Dr. Sharon have all tried feeding him by hand and pushing food in his mouth to try to make him eat it.
He'd get a few nibbles that way but he still won't eat on his own.
Last night Mom used a 60cc syringe and loaded it with some really good prescription pet food for him. She put it in his mouth and he had to swallow. Then she did it again and again til she got almost a half a can into him!!
Mom kept checking on him throughout the night and he never threw it back up so that's a GOOD thing!!!
We're sure hoping it will get his stomach juices churning and he will develop an appetite. He REALLY needs to start eating and drinking on his own.
His owners came up again last night to visit him and bring some of the food Mom's using to feed him. They really love him.
Y'all please keep sayin' prayers for him ok?

 
We got a BUNCH of Dragon Fruit (Pitaya) off our cactus' this week. And there's a bunch more growing!! They are REALLY healthy for you!! Check 'em out on line!!

Aug. 30, 2012 Thursday

 Don Gato ATE SOME ON HIS OWN YESTERDAY!!!!!! WAGWAGWAGWAG!!!!

 
Mom was syringe feeding him some Science Diet A/D  and he started licking his lips. That is the FIRST food he has shown any interest in at all in 6 days!!!!
Mom stopped syringing and offered him some food on a flat dish and he ate some!! But only just a little. So Mom fed him more with the syringe. She got almost 3/4 of a can into him!!!!
His family came to see him again last night and his "Mama" fed him by hand and got him to eat quite a bit!!
This morning Mom saw that he had been up and moving around in his crate quite a bit and had EATEN SOME OF HIS FOOD IN THE CRATE!!!
That's another FIRST!!! So far he has only eaten when we had him out of his crate and we pushed him to eat.
He's also sitting up and grooming himself a little. YAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If he keeps improving like this maybe me and Mom can eventually get a full nights sleep!!
Keep the prayers going please!! They're sure helping!!!!!

Miss Mirri is doin' so good Mom is letting her come out of the clinic room for a couple hours a day to mix and mingle with us other Lighthouse kids!!
She has gained almost 3/4 of a pound and Mom says she still needs to gain about another pound 'cause we can still feel all her little bones. That shouldn't take long though 'cause her apatite is REAL good!!  Mom says if she keeps eating like she is it won't be long  before she has to go on a diet!!! WMFWB!! (waggin' my fuzzy white butt)
She is learning how to get around and she is REALLY smart!! She seems to figure out things really quick.

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ!!!
We need to help the Bahamas shelter win a weekly prize!! If they win a weekly prize then it will put us in line to win the international category!! It's a win-win for both our shelters!!!
Starting Monday, FOR ONE WEEK ONLY, we all need to vote for the Bahamas shelter!!
If they get the most votes that week then they will win $1,000.00!! Then we can start voting for Lighthouse again!!
Mom will remind you again so we don't forget!!!

Our reminder is late again today. Mom and Dad have so much to do in the mornings it makes us late getting to the computer! They're doing all the clinic kids stuff, cleaning the clinic and 4 to 6 loads of laundry each day!! And it all has to be hung out on the line if it's not raining!! It doesn't give them much free time!!

At night though, when ALL the work is done, Mom kisses all the other furkids, tells them how special they each are and snuggles them. Then me and Mom do the head snuggle thing on our pillow and Mom talks in my ear so I can hear her say "That's my BudBud. Mama loves her boy."
She's been saying that all my life before we go to sleep and I don't know if I could sleep without hearing it.

Don Gato is doing GREAT!! He actually got a up and walked around a little this morning!! And he seems a lot more comfortable so Mom is cutting back on his pain meds. He's eating pretty good and seems to be drinking some on his own now!!! WHOOOO HOOOO!!!!!
It looks like all the prayers and positive energy is working!!!
He has a little infection in one of his wounds but Mom is really concentrating on that spot and, hopefully, it will clear up.
Please keep saying those prayers and sending healing thoughts!!

 
Her Ladyship Mirri is bouncing around and demanding attention!! She's gonna be one VERY spoiled little girl by the time she is completely well. Please keep saying some prayers that she will regain some of her vision!!
Mom says she eats like a horse and she seems to feel REALLY good!!
So far she absolutely refuses to eat canned dog or cat food. She will eat dry puppy chow for snacks if she HAS to but she demands cooked chicken for her main meal.
Mom says it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a good picture of her 'cause she won't be still!!! AT ALL!!!

Aug. 22, 23, 24, 25 and 26

We've been REALLY busy with two new "special needs" furkids that have come in so we  haven't posted to our blog in a few days.
We're just gonna post the news from the last few days all on this one blog post.

Aug 22nd.

Little Kristy is doing good. 

She's up and around a little and seems to be getting a little more perky. She even barked at Mom last night when Mom went in, before bedtime, to give her smooches and hugs. Mom says she barked and wagged her tail like we do when we greet people!! And she wagged her tail this morning when Mom went in to love on her and give her some of her meds!!!!
She is able to hear but her hearing is not great. She is still able to see only shadow and light.
Poor little kid gets LOTS of meds every day all day.
So far all she will eat is the pureed chicken so Mom made some more last night.
Say some prayers and send some healing energy please that she will regain her vision as the infection clears in that one eye.



Mom and Dad took the other little dog to the vet yesterday. She has a HORRIBLY infected ear and both eye are infected. She also has some kind of skin problem.
Dr. Sharon gave her three prescriptions and did a skin scraping to find out what the issue is with the skin. She's a really really sweet little dog. Her owners were so glad Mom helped them. They family doesn't have a lot of money but the dad is a mechanic so Mom told him someday he can just work on the car for us.
She says in the states they call that "barter" and folks used to do that all the time!!
Right now she's getting some new covers made for our couch that rescue dogs have messed up. The lady who is making them asked Mom to help with her dog and Mom paid for all the vet stuff. So Mom went and bought material and stuff and the lady, who makes clothes and stuff, is making the covers for the couch cushions.
That "barter" thing sounds like a GREAT plan to me!!!!
I wonder if we could barter for something like steaks for us perros and gatos?? yuuuummmmmm!!!
Mom said not to hold my breath.
Dad got one side of the garage gate fixed. It slides really good now. He had Mom help him lift it and carry it to the sawhorses so he could weld it and Mom says it's HEAVY!!!!!! It's made out of heavy metal and Mom says it weighs a ton!! After moving it a couple of times she told him he could just wait until Bro got off from work to move it again.
He's got to do the other gate now.

Uncle Sean says Llutu is doing GREAT with her new sister!! They go for walks on leash and Poochie and Llutu LOVE it!! 

Clem seems to be doing fine here without Llutu. He plays with Milana and Mieko a lot and Delilah plays with him sometimes too. He stole Dads' socks yesterday and hid them. He took one out in the yard and Dad found it and told him he better go bring the other one back. I don't think he understood but he stood up on his hind legs and danced for Dad anyway!! wagwagwag!!!
Mom finally found the other sock in the view room where Clem hangs out a lot.
He didn't chew them up though so that's a GOOD thing!!
Mom told Dad it was not Clems' fault. Dog rules are "If it's on the floor it's MINE!!"

 

Mom's gotta go give Kristy some more medicine so we gotta go. Thanks for all the votes and PLEASE vote again today!!!

Mom took little Mirri (formerly called Kristy) to the vet yesterday to try to get a urine sample. Unfortunately she had just pee'd before she took her so her little bladder was empty. Mom took her to Aunt Kays and sat the and talked while she syringe fed Mirri water. After an hour she took her back to Dr. Sharon. Still no luck.
Mom came home and waited another hour then took her back down to the vet. Dr. Sharon squeezed her bladder forever trying to get a few drops. STILL no luck.
They finally put her down on the floor and she sniffed for a minute and then squatted!! Dr. Sharon shoved a cup under her and caught enough for the lab to test!! WHOOO HOOOO!!!!

She's doing better this morning and has gained some strength. When she hears Moms' voice she starts looking for her. She drops her head down and "feels" with the fur on top of her head to inch her way along until she locates Mom.
She can hear when Mom claps her hands and comes straight to her.

All us other perros are just kinda hangin' out and waiting til we get to meet little Mirri. We got to sniff her the other day while she was in Moms lap at the computer, but we haven't got to actually say hello to her yet.

Little Llutu is doing great in her new home. Her new dad, Sean, sends us emails each day to let us know how she's doing. She stole his sock the other night and slept with it on her pillow!!! wagwagwag!!!Thanks for all the prayers for Mirri. She's a cute little furkid and needs all the prayers she can get!! Mom says she's not out of the woods yet and still has a LOT of infection in her tiny body so please keep saying prayers and sending healing thoughts.

August 24th,

We got a new cat in yesterday and Mom is pretty busy dealing with that and the adorable little Mirri.

The cat was attacked by dogs and they ripped a lot of skin off of him. The owner did not have the time for all the work that needed doing and asked the vet to just euthanize the cat.

He's only 3 years old so the Dr. Sharon called Mom.

Mom's gonna try to help the cat get through this and then maybe Dr. Sharon can find him a home. Mom's gonna do a video of him but she's gonna put warnings on it so people don't watch unless they have really strong stomachs.

Mom says the injuries are pretty gross.

Say some prayers for him please and send healing energy.

I don't get it!! Why would dogs attack a cat? Our cats here at Lighthouse are our buddies!!

Little Mirri is doing GREAT!! She still can't see but she is gaining a lot of strength and greets Mom and Dad with her tail wagging!! She bounces when she barks!! She's eating really good and peeing and pooping normally!!! WHOOO HOOO!!!!

Mom's gonna do a new video of her too!!!

We'll try to include those videos tomorrow if Mom gets a chance to get them finished up.

Gotta go...Mom has to go try to doctor "Don Gato" (that's the cats name) and help him feel better.

August 25th 

 Little Mirri is doing SOOO good!! She's FULL of energy and spends most of her time barking for Mom to come be with her in the clinic room. She still can't see though. She's getting lots of medicine to help her eyes so please keep saying prayers for her ok?
Mom says it's almost impossible to get a picture of her 'cause she never stops moving unless she's being petted and loved on.
She's eating real good and has gained almost a half pound!!!

The new cat, Don, is still sedated pretty heavily for the pain. He is really sweet though and lets Mom and Dad change the bandage on his leg. Dr. Sharon is coming up today to see him. Mom says the color of his leg doesn't look good. She's worried he might lose it. Those dogs really tore him up bad, poor baby. Y'all say some prayers for hm too please.

Some of the cactus flowers bloomed late last night and they were still open this morning so Mom got pics!! Usually they're wilted and hangin' down by mornin' so this was a real treat!!
They're HUGE!!! And Beautiful!! Once the flower falls off the Dragon Fruit will be born!!

Mom's gotta go give more medicine to the clinic kids so we gotta go.

Aug. 26th

 Don, the cat, is doing a little better but he keeps dehydrating. He was on fluids most of yesterday and into the night. This morning he is dry again. Mom has texted the vet so hopefully we'll hear from her in a little while. 

Little Mirri is doing just fine. Her urine test showed she does have a urinary tract infection so she is now on antibiotics for that along with all the medication for her eyes and the supplements she is on to help her regain her strength. She sure is a sweetie and she's getting lots of love from Mom and Dad.

Here's another pic of the cactus flowers (Dragon Fruit Blossoms) that we took yesterday. And a pic of some of the Dragon Fruit Mom picked off the cactus yesterday. We've got a BUNCH growing this year!! 

Gotta go. Mom's gotta go give meds to Mirri and Don.
